Duties and Responsibilities:

The Highway Accountant is responsible for implementing and maintaining all the Highway Department accounting records and procedures in accordance with governmental accounting and financial standards.   Essential duties of this position include a variety of highly responsible, varied, complex, and specialized knowledge and understanding of State and Federal highway financial system operations, along with the coordination and administration of the general financial operations of the Highway Department’s $6 million annual budget.  Essential functions of the job include:  Allocating various funds to construction, maintenance, and programs.  Distributing costs (e.g. time, materials, equipment, etc.) to specific projects and cost accounts.  Tracking and monitoring cash flow.  Maintaining account payables and receivables.  Preparing payroll information in accordance with County procedures.   The preparation or generation of various accounting reports, including annual report, project reports, and budget reports.

Minimum Requirements:

Required to hold valid Class D Minnesota Driver’s License. 

 

A working knowledge of computers, typewriters, copiers, and two-way radios is desirable.

Desirable Training and Experience:

Associate degree in account, finance, business or related field and minimum of 2 years’ experience in accounting and cost accounting experience.
