Mission Statement: To promptly record, file and preserve documents accurately in an efficient, responsible, and professional manner for posterity and legal purpose. To provide protection and public notice by recording, indexing, maintaining and displaying records of legal documents.
Summary of Responsibilities: The Clearwater County Recorder is the custodial of all legal records pertaining to Real Estate, Birth, Death, Marriage and Notary Public, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), Abstracting, Tract Index Searches, Owner's and Encumbrance Reports, State and Federal Tax Liens and Military Discharges. Our Office is an agency for Minnesota Public Safety and issues MN Drivers Licenses and MN Identification Cards.
When acting as the Registrar of Titles, the Clearwater County Recorder reviews each document before recording to determine if the document will cloud title, similar to when an attorney examines an abstract for abstract property. When property is held in trust, estate or is part of a court proceeding, the Examiner of Titles issues a Directive to the Registrar of Titles regarding how to proceed.
